From paintings to people: my story

I bought my first camera, a Canon T4i, almost 15 years ago to photograph my paintings. Somewhere along the way, the camera became its own art form. After upgrading to a T6i, I started bringing it on summer trips to India, where I found myself drawn to portraits, faces, and the culture around me.

Video came even earlier. In 8th grade I was shooting music videos on old point-and-shoots (even a PSP camera) and cutting AMVs to Dragon Ball Z and Final Fantasy VII. Editing has been part of how I tell stories ever since.

A few years ago, I moved to Old Town Alexandria and started filming local bands on my phone during their sets. Before long, those clips turned into paid work, and I eventually brought out the real camera and began shooting cover bands and live events throughout the area.

Along the way, I started taking on more engagements and weddings and found myself drawn to the energy, emotion, and storytelling that come with those moments. Today, Shiny Head Studio is focused entirely on capturing those special celebrations for couples through photography and film.

I also teach digital art, sculpture, and photography. I shoot weddings, events, and gigs on the weekends, then spend the week teaching my students the same concepts I use behind the camera: composition, light, and the moment that tells the story.
